Realizing I wanted to work more with open source, I switched over from VB/PHP to Python around 2006.

Django

Making the switch to Python allowed me to open my horizons to Appengine and Django, but ultimately stuck with Django as an all encompassing web framework.

MySQL/Postgres

There will always be a place in my heart for a relational solution.

I also switched over to linux around 2006 as well and have been mainly working with Ubuntu, Centos, and Gentoo.

Proto Buffer / Thrift

I am definitely enjoying the benefits from these solutions.

Firebase

Appears to be a hot product currently as it gained momentum and then was bought out. Potential looks great for this tech.

Cassandra

Really excellent NoSQL solution, not for the faint of heart. I researched and wrote about the core functionality and can't wait to see how it performs.
